Frequently Asked Questions

Facts and terms for singers, vocal contractors, and producers.

For singers

What does it cost to be listed?

Nothing, ever. There is no listing fee, no subscription, and no commission on any booking. The registry takes no percentage of anything you earn.

Do I need credits to be listed?

No. Credits are displayed when you have them and filtered on by contractors who need them, but they are not required. A listing publishes when it carries a measured file, your declared terms, and a rate — none of which depend on your career stage.

Do I need to be able to record myself?

No. You can list as in-person only. Self-recording and self-editing are increasingly what contractors screen for, so the listing shows whether you do them — but not doing them does not keep you out.

Who can see my email address?

Nobody. It is not on the page, not in the page source, and not returned by any API. When someone sends you a brief it arrives in your inbox with their address as the reply-to. Your address is revealed only when you choose to reply.

What about my phone number?

It is never published and never released by the site in any form, under any conditions. If you want someone to have it, include it in your reply to them.

Can I stop getting briefs that are below my rate?

Yes. Each listing has a setting: deliver everything, deliver everything with below-floor briefs tagged (the default), or block below-floor briefs. You choose. The registry never discards work on your behalf unless you have set it to.

Can I set different rates for different kinds of work?

Yes. Each rate row carries a work type, an amount, and a basis — per song, per day, per week, and so on. A day rate and a per-song rate are not comparable, so the basis is required. You can also list a work type as by negotiation and state no figure. Studio and session rates start at $250; touring and live rates are not floored.

Why is there a minimum rate?

The registry lists studio and session work at $250 and above. SAG-AFTRA's lowest agreement — Ultra Low Budget — pays $278 for a solo or duo singer day, and no union agreement in the business permits less. Touring and live work is not floored, because those markets price differently and the rates page shows how.

Can I be listed under my first name and last initial?

Yes. Credits are not displayed on a partial-name listing, because a credit can only be checked against the name it was issued under. That is a consequence of how verification works, not a penalty.

I'm under 18 — can I be listed?

Yes, on a parent-managed listing. It shows your first name and last initial, your region rather than your city, carries no phone field at all, and every brief goes to your parent or guardian's address.

How do I change or remove my listing?

Through the update link sent to your listed address. There is no account to create and no password to remember.

How do I contact a singer?

Through the Enquire button on their listing. You give your name, your reply address, the project category, whether it is union or direct, your budget and its basis, and a short description of the project. It is delivered to the singer's own inbox with your address as the reply-to.

Why a form instead of an email address?

Two reasons. Singers with real credits attract volume, and most of it is not a fit — a listing that buries someone in mismatched briefs stops being worth having. And a brief with a budget and a basis attached gets a faster answer than one without, because the singer can tell immediately whether it is worth their time. The conversation after that is entirely between the two of you.

Is it free for me?

Yes. There is no fee to browse, to filter, or to send a brief, and the registry takes no percentage of what you agree.

Why was my enquiry not delivered?

The singer has set their listing to decline briefs below their stated floor for that kind of work. Their floor is shown to you along with the option to adjust your budget or see singers whose stated floor fits the project.

What does the noise floor figure mean?

It is a measurement of how quiet a singer's delivered file is when nobody is singing. See /noise-floor for the standard and what each band means.

What does Certified mean here?

It means the singer's file was analysed and passed the published capture standard — peaks, clipping, floor and edit noise. It is a statement about a file, not about anyone's ability. See /standards.

Do you vet the singers?

Only where a fact can be checked. Capture measurements are taken from the file itself. Credits marked verified have a source behind them. Everything else on a listing — rates, availability, delivery mode, experience — is declared by the singer and labelled as declared. The registry does not audition anyone, rank anyone, or vouch for anyone's performance.

Are the rates negotiable?

Union work is governed by the applicable agreement, not by the singer or by us — see /rates. Direct and non-union rates are between you and the singer. The figure on a listing is the singer's stated starting point.

Why can't I send a direct or non-union brief to this singer?

They have declared SAG-AFTRA membership. Under the union's Global Rule One, members work for signatory producers only. If you are not currently a signatory you can become one for the project — choose that option on the enquiry form.
